Waking on the front lawn
after a night of revelry,
reeking of Cutty Sark and hot sauce,
I struggle to one knee, genuflecting
at the altar of the big oak.
To my right, morning dew collects
in the inverted caps of wild mushrooms:
holy water in a church vestibule.
